| History |
| The
Leetonia Community Public Library was established by resolution of the Leetonia Board of Education in 1935. As a school system library the school board appoints the library board which then attends to the administration of the library independently.
The Leetonia School District and the Leetonia Community Public
Library do not share funding sources or funds. The library was
first housed in the high school but was soon moved to its current
site at the northwest corner of
Walnut and Main. The library moved into the rooms once occupied by
the Council Home Company and the building was owned by the Knights
of Columbus.
The library flourished and eventually purchased the building in 1986.The first renovation of the facility was completed in 1989
modernizing the collection and staff area as well as leveling the
ground floor from three levels to one. A second renovation was completed in 2000 which modernized the second floor creating meeting and office space as well as more storage. In September of 2004 the library was able to purchase the 6 acre lot once occupied by the high school and football stadium. Soon after the library board voted to embark on a campaign to build an all new facility on the newly purchased property. |

Internet
Policy
Introduction
Dear Library Patron:
We are pleased to offer Internet access to our patrons. Our Internet workstation will allow users to utilize information resources from other computers around the world. The library's primary mission in providing Internet access is to enhance our reference service by providing for the informational educational, business, and recreational needs of our patrons. In order to offer quality Internet service to all of our patrons, potential users must demonstrate adequate computer skills and agree to follow the policy guidelines outlined below. In addition, due to the controversial nature of some Internet sites, a parent or legal guardian must grant permission for any child under the age of 18 to use the workstation.
POLICY GUIDELINES
1. All users must demonstrate adequate computer ability before using the Internet workstation for the first time. A staff Librarian will ask each patron to perform specific tasks and answer select questions correctly before permission is granted to use the workstation. All users must also hold a valid Leetonia Library borrowers card before applying to use the Internet and/or signing for a minor.
2. Use of the Internet workstation will be limited to half-hour time increments and only one person at a time may be seated at the computer. Patrons may sign up for a time slot on a first-come, first-serve basis, or register in advance on the same day they wish to use the Internet.
3. The patron and/or the parent/guardian is liable for any damage done to the Internet workstation's hardware or software and for any illegal or unethical acts performed through our system. This is not limited to physical damage or vandalism. Tampering with local or remote computer files and/or committing legal or ethical violations of acceptable Internet use, will result in permanent loss of Internet privileges at the library and could also result in financial liability and/or criminal charges.
4. Patrons will have access to all free Internet sites, including graphical resources on the World Wide Web. In the interest of protecting free speech and privacy, library staff will not monitor an individual's use of any sites. However, as the Internet workstation display screen is in view of all patrons and staff, users are not permitted to display any visual images including nudity, obscenity, or graphic violence. Patrons will receive one warning regarding this rule; another violation will result in permanent loss of Internet privileges at the library. Acceptability of screen displays will be left to the discretion of supervising library staff.
5. Library staff will instruct patrons in how to logon and logoff, and other basic procedures of our particular Internet system. Staff will not provide any further instruction or perform searches for patrons. Internet books are available in the library. The workstation is designed and intended for patrons with prior knowledge and some experience in using the Internet. Library staff cannot be expected to be familiar with all the resources on the Internet. Patrons are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any material they locate on Internet sites.
6. Users may download files to floppy disks purchased at the library however, downloading to the workstation's hard drive is expressly prohibited. Only patrons with the proper knowledge and experience should attempt any form of downloading or file transfer; users will be responsible for any damage as outlined In Guideline #3.
